Here’s a link to the Chronic Disease Fund or “Good Days” fund. This is to help with the large co-pays some people have to pay on a monthly basis for expensive medications. I think we should all know about the availability of this help so we can pass along the information.

Free Diabetes Care and Support

The Henry Ford Endocrinology, Diabetes Department offers a free diabetes care support clinic for the uninsured from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Mondays and Fridays at the health clinic of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital – Warren Campus. Diabetes specialists provide free care and support for uninsured persons 18 years and older in Macomb County. Free telephone support, education, diabetes-related lab tests, and meal planning are provided, as well as low- cost medication. Eligible patients must be a U.S. citizen, a Macomb resident or a patient discharged from Henry Ford Macomb Hospital – Warren Campus, be uninsured, have diabetes, and be 18 years or older. Troy Program

A program offered through Bharatiya Temple in Troy is called Health Care SEVA Project. The mission is to offer basic health care to families who lost their health insurance due to a job loss. One does not need to be a member of the temple. It is open to all Michigan citizens. You must provide proof of job loss and the service is temporary, until laid-off employees secure another job or receive government-paid insurance. A hot line to request service is 248 341-3727.

Call 2-1-1 to learn information about critical health and human services available in your community. The United Way worker will ask questions to assess your needs and direct you accordingly. You may have to wait “on hold” for a while, since they are very busy helping people. If 211 does not work with your phone service, you can call 1-800-552-1183.
