Calling the United Way – 211 or 800-552-1183 is a great first step to finding local help. Many communities have programs in place.
*Always good to check with local City Hall, Police Department or Fire Department to see if there is an active Goodfellows or other human service organization providing holiday help.
Local Salvation Army has various programs www.usc.salvationarmy.org/usc/www_usc_emi.

Gifts for Seniors and “Adopt A Family Christmas Program”. Matches families with donors and then helps distributes donor gifts to adopted families in December. Also Thanksgiving meal items, baby, household and personal care items and medical equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.

Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas help.
The Macomb County Crisis Center is operating a Christmas Help Referral Program. During this time, the crisis center will accept calls for Christmas help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 586-307-9100. Collect calls will be accepted. Families needing help this holiday season may call the center and phone counselors will give referrals to appropriate community resources.

In collaboration with various Macomb agencies, is sponsoring its first Thanksgiving Day
Celebration on Thanksgiving Day 2009. Meals will be served to homeless people and low-income families beginning at 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Cairns Community Center, 58 Orchard Street in Mt. Clemens.
