My name is Mike Nowak and I work for Variant Partners in Ann Arbor.  We are an Executive Search firm and have been in business since 1970. We work with our clients and candidates on a very confidential basis.
We have partnered with a local Tier 1 automotive supplier and are in search of a (Senior) Project Buyer to add to their team.  I’m reaching out today to see if you, or anyone you know, might be interested in learning more about this opportunity.  I have included an overview below.
(Senior) Project Buyer – Automotive Supplier – Troy, MI
This is a corporate, global sourcing/purchasing position.
Company overview: 
This is a Global Tier 1 automotive supplier that manufactures electromechanical components and systems (body control modules, switches, sensors).  They are privately-owned, very stable financially, and have been in business for over 75 years.  They have a very good benefits plan (6% match 401K, PTO, flex time, Full Benefits).  This is a full-time, direct-hire position.
Position Responsibilities
  • Participate in the quotation process to provide market prices and /or estimates for raw materials and bought in components.
  • Send RFQ’s, negotiates best piece price, logistics, and tooling with suppliers.
  • Select and develop sources for the supply of raw materials and components for new projects, ensuring selection complements the purchasing strategy, timing plans and PPAP requirements.
  • Negotiate contracts, which achieve long term price reductions, quality and service objectives for new projects, ensuring contractual terms like general conditions, agreements for warranty, quality and logistics are agreed and signed by the suppliers.
  • Analyze cost structures through cost & value analysis, benchmarks for best practices.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business-related or Engineering-related technical field (or significant, relevant experience)
  • 3+ years of procurement experience in a high volume manufacturing environment utilizing a worldwide supply base (automotive preferred)
  • Program or Project purchasing experience
  • Experience procuring/sourcing electro-mechanical and plastic products would be a plus
